New arrivals in my shop!

How was your weekend? Mine was a full working one. Mike has also spent three days to move the greenhouse to a new site; he took Friday off for that. We have been busy as tender for our extension, which will be my studio, is close. He has been preparing lots of things for that, and I have been working hard in anticipation of disruption, especially firings.

I have listed lots of new works this month, and some of them have already gone. Please do check often, as I am adding almost daily.

The cooler weather in Canterbury hit me, and I got a chill after I came home from France. But now acclimatised, I'm back to English weather mode! :D

I have been busy packing for a few days. Some for a gallery and others for lovely people! I will show you what I have posted yesterday here, although I have more photos of Lyon to share with you. They can wait!

Several tapirs were fired successfully before we left for France. The Tapir waiting list started moving, again.

A report from the studio

Here is the report from the studio for the last two weeks!

I was making one for a young gentleman who purchased a similar one for his friend at Ceramic Art London, and then I thought why not making more. Three tiny whippets, about 4 cm long! : )

Hello! I have made a good progress on glazing today. I must do, as deadlines are coming. The first one is 8-9th November at Windsor Contemporary Art Fair. Bisque firing went well, and that was relief! I don't want any nasty surprise at this stage.

Tuesday, after I came back from London, I made several hounds in various poses.

I had to wake up at dawn to load the kiln yesterday morning! Beautiful!

I have posted a beautiful crackle glazed whippet to a lovely lady yesterday, but then, I felt so tired that I was not able to concentrate on glazing. Going to London four times in a week was a bit too much! Lots of coffee and the best quality truffles were required! 

I treated myself with Godiva truffles.

Then, look! I received a beautiful thank you card from Rebecca at Etsy! How nice! 

Being perked up, I made an anteater! Two hounds are fresh from the kiln!

 Tomorrow will be another glazing day! More coffee! :D

A little chicken is hiding under an anteater!

Today, I did the second glaze-firing in four days. The bisque firing went well, thankfully. I then spent the next 4 days glazing. The first glaze-firing was all white rabbits. They are relatively straight forward. But it took me 4 hours to do one shelf!

In today's firing, there are two shelves.  Mysteriously the black things are bronze-gold whippets. This glaze is made of lots of metal oxides. Hence they carry a higher price tag than those with other glazes. Application is also very messy. I need to place them very carefully in the kiln so that any dust doesn't fly onto other works.

On the upper shelf, there are several refirings.

Have you noticed the anteater and chickens? The little chicken is squatting under the anteater's long mouth! :D  The kiln will be opened tomorrow morning, I hope they will come out nice! : )

The worst ever firing

I had the worst firing ever. All rabbits were ruined. All of them. A half month of work became rubbish. Sigh. 

What happened? They had a wrong glaze. How did it happen? Glaze storage manager, Mike, told me the bucket was white one. I pointed at the label saying 'clear'. He said that it was wrong. He had put the white glaze into this bucket. Never believe him. Believe the label!

Now you know why glaze ceramic artists don't become millionaires (reason 2 - the reason 1 is in the previous post). I am making loss! I was cross and disappointed. Some of them were for a gallery. I'm making more rabbits rather than packing them for delivery this weekend. 

Then, after a while, I thought about those who were in Malaysian Airline shot down over Ukraine. The firing was disappointing, but nobody was hurt. There were much worse things in the world. You have to view everything in perspective. I forgave Mike. I started making more.

Although all rabbits will go to a bin, other ones came out mostly fine, thankfully. I have already listed three pieces of works from the firing. 

As I typed this, two are already gone. : ) So chin up and smile, Midori!
